The instrument has a dual-camera setup with a colour camera and monochromatic camera for fluorescence imaging. It has two white light sources for brightfield imaging, a ring light from above and light below the sample. Fluorescence optical sectioning is possible via structured illumination using the ApoTome.2.

With structured illumination (SIM), you know that only the focal plane appears in your image: ApoTome.2 recognizes the magnification and moves the appropriate grid into the beampath. The system then calculates your optical section from three (or more) images with different grid positions. This removes scattered out-of-focus light from your images, even in thicker specimens.
